An
example of gender results for birds. Birds have a ZW sex determination
system in which males have two Z chromosomes and females have
one Z and one W chromosome. The marker that we analyzed in this
image has a shorter allele on the Z chromosome (~ 230 base pairs)
than on the W chromosome (~285 base pairs), at least in chickadees
